A Sad Part Of Life

The other day my mother told me that she wants us to start looking into getting life insurance again. Every time she becomes sick she gets really worried about what I’ll do if she passes away. I really hate having that conversation. No one wants to think, let alone talk about losing the one person in the world that they care most about. It’s extremely sad and depressing. However, I do understand that it’s necessary since dying is a part of life. I’d just prefer it if I died before my mother.

I guess eventually we’re going to have to meet with the insurance agent and discuss policies. I know nothing about life insurance. I’ve read some things about the best term life insurance online, but I’m not even sure if that’s the type of insurance we’re supposed to get. Ugh, it’s all so stressful.

We’re A Team!

Today was a very boring day. I was supposed to help my mom wrap up some business before we go on hiatus for the summer, but we’re going to do that tomorrow instead. I’m kind of excited about this hiatus even though there really isn’t a huge difference for us. I guess the only difference is financial. I know my mom is happy about the hiatus because she can use the break. Running everything ourselves is stressful at times. And I must admit that she does about 75 percent of the work herself. I think if our ministry ever expands we’ll definitely need other people to help us. Maybe we’ll even need some kind of project management software to help things run smoothly as well. Until then, it’s just the two of us!

Summer Grilling…

I really miss the summer barbecues that my family used to have every year. They were always so much fun. We would cook out almost every weekend for pretty much the whole day. Many of our close neighbors would even come to our barbecues. I think they looked forward to them just as much as we did. I think it’s been well over five years since we’ve had one of those summer family barbecues. Partly because we no longer live in such a big house and partly because my uncle passed away. He was the one who used to handle the grill.

Lately my mom has been mentioning purchasing a grill so we can start having small family barbecues. It will only be the people in my household pretty much, but I’m actually looking forward to it. I just miss the taste of grilled food. We’ve been considering getting a small electric grill to grill vegetables on as well. I’ve never had an electric grill, so I’m not sure how that will work. It’s worth trying though!

Feisty Granny…

My grandmother found out that she had diabetes about seven years ago and I think her eating habits have only gotten worse. Most people decide to change their eating habits and make a lot of lifestyle changes when they discover that they’re diabetic, but not my grandmother. That’s a feisty old lady. I believe she has type 2 diabetes. I’m not sure, but I know that she isn’t required to give herself insulin injections. She pretty much controls it with pills.

I really think if she was to change some of her eating habits and make some lifestyle changes that diabetes wouldn’t even be an issue for her. She eats a lot of fatty foods and consumes a lot of sugar and foods that diabetics aren’t supposed to eat. She doesn’t play be the rules at all. I wonder if she even owns a pair of diabetic socks. Probably not. I’m not sure why her health seems to be really good even though she doesn’t take great care of herself, but I’m thankful for her sake.
